20 Years On: The People Behind Radio Warehouse - Radio Warehouse

On July 13 2026, Radio Warehouse turned 20.

For two decades we've done one thing: help Australian business and government teams communicate when it matters most. It feels like the right moment to step back, tell you where we came from, and explain why that history still shows up in every quote, every system design, and every support call we take today.

It started with people who'd already spent a lifetime in radio

Radio Warehouse was founded in 2006 by David Cox and Martin Cahill, two people who didn't come to radio communications as a business opportunity, but as a craft they'd already spent careers mastering.

David began as an Officer in the Royal Australian Corps of Signals, the unit responsible for radio communications, information systems and electronic warfare support across the Australian Army and the wider Defence Force. When you learn radio in an environment where a dropped signal has real consequences, you carry a particular standard with you for life. David then spent years at Motorola Solutions, eventually becoming General Manager of Motorola Solutions Australia.

Martin's path ran in parallel. He started on the tools as a radio technician and built a 20-plus year career at Motorola, holding senior leadership roles across sales, marketing and product development on a global stage. In 2002 he founded Pacific Wireless Communications in Australia, before joining David to launch Radio Warehouse in 2006.

Between them, our founders brought close to a century of radio communications experience to the table. That isn't a tagline, it's the reason the business has always been built around getting the system right, not just shifting a box.

The standards our industry runs on

David and Martin weren't only building a company. They were instrumental in forming the Australian Radio Communications Industry Association (ARCIA).

Today ARCIA unifies more than 1,500 industry professionals and sets the benchmarks for excellence that the Australian radio communications industry measures itself against. When you see ARCIA's name attached to standards, accreditation or best practice across our industry, you're looking at an institution our founders helped bring into existence.

That heritage runs right through the company. Our Managing Director, Ari Adar, brings nearly two decades of telecommunications experience from Motorola Solutions in Hong Kong, Vodafone in the UK, Telstra and Pacific Wireless Communications, and is an active ARCIA committee member — carrying that same commitment to industry excellence into the present day.

It matters for a simple reason. We've never been interested in making radio easier to buy by making it worse. The whole point was to prove that convenience and rigour aren't opposites.

Australia's first online radio communications dealer

When Radio Warehouse opened in 2006, buying professional radio communications online wasn't really a thing.

We became Australia's first online radio communications dealer, distributor and service organisation. The idea was straightforward: serve customers wherever they are, with transparent pricing, the convenience of buying online, and the depth of people who've spent their lives in the field standing behind it.

What 20 years has taught us about getting it right

Plenty of places will sell you a radio. Far fewer can tell you whether it's the right radio for a noisy worksite, a multi-storey hotel, a school campus, a mine site, or a fleet spread across a state — and then program it, support it, repair it, and stand behind it for years afterward.

That's the difference two decades builds:

Independent advice, with no incentive to oversell. Our solution consultants earn zero sales commission. Their job is to recommend what actually fits your operation, not what carries the best margin. For a growing business, that means you're not paying for capability you'll never use, and you're not under-specced for the environment you actually work in.

Transparent pricing. A founding principle in 2006, and it hasn't moved since.

A full solution, not just hardware. Radio system design, two-way radio hire, ACMA private channel provision, programming, staff training, repair and warranty service, and flexible finance — the things that turn a pile of radios into a system your team can rely on.

The brands that serious operations trust. As authorised dealers for Icom, Kenwood, Motorola, Tait, 3M Peltor, Hytera, L3Harris, Wireless Pacific, Simoco and more, we can match you to genuinely fit-for-purpose equipment across the full commercial and mission-critical range.

Support that's still there after the sale. Comprehensive technical, after-sales and warranty support, Australia-wide, with every system we sell.

Thank you — here's to the next 20

For 20 years, thousands of Australian organisations across construction, hospitality, education, government, security, mining, events and more have trusted us to keep their teams connected. Many have been with us for the better part of those two decades, and that trust is the thing we're most grateful for as we mark this milestone.

The radios have changed. The networks have changed. UHF, WiFi, 4G LTE and satellite have all reshaped what's possible. What hasn't changed is the standard our founders set on day one: know the craft, stand on the side of the customer with independent advice, and make sure the communication works when it matters most.

That's been our mission for 20 years. It still is.
