Radio Programming Options Explained
The purpose of this page is to layout all the different programming options that could potentially be programmed into your two way radio communication system.
Why do I need my radios programmed?
Two way radios are purpose built for use as bespoke communication system, that suits the exact operational requirements of our customers. Consequently, most radios do not come "out of the box" ready to operate, and they must be programmed and configured accordingly.
How we program the radios, will depend on the make & model of your radio system, your radios technological capabilities, its type-approval status, and most importantly: your communication objectives & business operational environment.

80 CB Channels
Introduced by the ACMA in 2011, these are the 80 UHF CB channels that replace the original 40 wide-band CB channels. These Citizen Band (CB) channels in Australia are public channels, free to use, and are best suited for public communication purposes, interaction with 3rd parties.
Despite these channels being free to use, they can only be programmed on radios that are typed-approved for CB operation.
Radio Warehouse's Onsite Team 8™ Channels
Radio Warehouse's Team 8™ is a unique programming feature that adds 8 team channels for you to communicate on without interference from other parties operating on the same frequency by chance. These are perfect for business use and do not require a licence to access. Other radios not programmed with our Team 8 programming will not be able to communicate with your radios on these channels. If you are not communicating things of a sensitive nature, the Team 8™ programming may be suitable for you.
Personalised Programming - Match Existing System
If you have an existing radio system and need your new radios to match your existing system, this is the option for you. We will typically ask a new customer to send us one of their existing radios so we can clone its programming details so the newly purchased equipment, to ensure it operates seamlessly alongside the existing equipment once it is put into operation. Also select the "personalised programming" option if you are now requesting your own licensed frequency and/or need to access custom features in the radio that are not enabled by default settings.
Personalised Programming - New System Setup
If you are purchasing a new radio system for the first time, selecting this option will ensure that one of our solution consultants / engineers will work with you to configure and setup your new radio system to your exact operational specifications. Everything from selection of correct frequency band, technology type (Analogue vs Digital) including UHF/VHF WiFi & LTE, channels, direct calling options, emergency features and more. This option may attract additional ACMA fees, if we need to apply for your radio system to operate on a private channel.
The benefits of getting your own "Private Channel"
Whilst utilising a public UHF CB channel has some cost advantages, it may not be suitable for those whose radio communications are business critical, require private / encrypted communication, or suitable to used in an emergency.
For a relatively small cost, businesses can acquire either fixed site-licenced channels or a roaming-licenced channel (for mobile-based businesses).
There are multiple advantages of obtaining a private channel for your radio system, including the ability to operate the radio in digital mode: DMR, NXDN, IDAS, increasing sound quality & coverage.
Radio Warehouse can complete all these ACMA regulatory requirements and formalities on your behalf while processing your order, including programming your purchased radio equipment to maximise your communications privacy and effectiveness.
