The Icom IC-F7020 (UHF) and IC-F7010 (VHF) are P25 digital handheld transceivers built for public safety, government, utilities, mining and transport professionals operating on mission-critical radio networks. DHS P25 CAP certified to the TIA-102 standard, both models are confirmed interoperable with other P25 radios regardless of brand, and can be upgraded to P25 Phase 1 and Phase 2 trunking with a license key as your network grows.
Both models are available in two keypad configurations: a T model (ten-key alphanumeric keypad) and an S model (simplified keypad). That gives four variants in total: IC-F7020T, IC-F7020S, IC-F7010T and IC-F7010S. Select your version using the options above.
Key Features and Benefits
- P25 CAP Certified Interoperability: DHS P25 CAP certification to TIA-102 confirms interoperability with other certified P25 radios from Motorola, Kenwood, Harris and other manufacturers - essential for multi-agency and government deployments across Australia.
- Upgradeable to P25 Phase 1 and Phase 2 Trunking: Starts as a P25 Phase 1 conventional radio. Optional license keys (ISL-P25TR and ISL-P25P2) upgrade it to Phase 1 and Phase 2 trunking, protecting your investment as your network evolves.

Programming and Licensing in Australia
The IC-F7020 and IC-F7010 operate on licensed land mobile frequencies and require an ACMA apparatus licence. The radio must be programmed to match your P25 network parameters, talkgroup structure and trunking controller settings. Our team can assist - see our Programming Explained page or ACMA Private Channel Provision service.
Icom IC-F7020 / IC-F7010 FAQs
What is the difference between the Icom IC-F7010 and IC-F7020?
The IC-F7010 is a VHF P25 radio covering 136–174 MHz. The IC-F7020 is a UHF P25 radio covering 380–470 MHz. All features, certifications, dimensions and specifications are otherwise identical. Your choice must match the licensed frequency band used by your P25 network. If you are unsure, contact us before ordering.
What is the difference between P25 Phase 1 and Phase 2?
P25 Phase 1 uses FDMA technology with 12.5 kHz channel spacing and is the most widely deployed P25 standard in Australia. P25 Phase 2 uses TDMA on the same 12.5 kHz channel, effectively doubling call capacity. The IC-F7020 and IC-F7010 support Phase 1 conventional as standard and can be upgraded to Phase 1 or Phase 2 trunking with the appropriate license keys.
Is the IC-F7020 interoperable with Motorola APX and other P25 radios?
Yes, when operating on the same P25 network. The IC-F7020 and IC-F7010 are DHS P25 CAP certified to TIA-102, which confirms multi-vendor interoperability with other certified P25 radios from Motorola, Kenwood, Harris and other manufacturers. Check with your network administrator to confirm your infrastructure is CAP-compliant.
Can the IC-F7020 and IC-F7010 communicate with my existing analogue radios?
Yes. Both models support analogue FM mode and analogue/digital mixed mode, allowing them to operate on the same licensed frequencies as existing analogue radios during a phased migration to P25 digital.
How waterproof is the IC-F7020 and IC-F7010?
Both models are rated IP68 - fully dust-tight and waterproof to one metre depth for one hour. The BP-284 battery is also separately rated IP68. The radios have been tested to MIL-STD-810G for shock, vibration, humidity, rain, salt fog, temperature shock, solar radiation and blowing dust. Read more about what IP ratings mean.
