Our approach towards credit card surcharge fees. - Radio Warehouse

We are happy that the issue of credit card surcharge fees are currently being openly discussed in the Australian media. This is our approach towards them.

Since founding Radio Warehouse in 2006, we have never charged, credit card surcharge fees to our customers. We have also, taken the unconventional approach, of accepting American Express payments, to broaden our ability to offer our services to other businesses, particularly international corporations, who only have this credit card facility. We have chosen to do this, at our own expense.

Whether our customers choose VISA, MasterCard or AMEX, it is frankly, none of our business. We remain "Switzerland", if you pardon the pun, on our customer's financial choices, and the current "political debate" taking place on the matter.

In my personal opinion, I believe it is a bit "rich" for companies, to pass on credit card surcharge fees to customers, particularly when it is done in a "sneaky way". There is nothing worse than using a credit card to pay, for example, dinner for the family, and discovering on your credit card bill, that you have been unknowingly charged a surcharge fee; it leaves a negative, post-purchase, taste in your mouth. Who benefits by a business acting in this manner? Not the customer.

I believe that our customers, whether they are other businesses, government departments or individual sole traders, should not be, in effect, taxed, for choosing to pay with credit card. Users of credit cards, are already paying interest on their credit, if they choose to not pay off their credit card in full when it is due, as is their individual choice and prerogative.

I appreciate that businesses do not like having to absorb the high transaction fees, of offering a credit facility to their end customers. However, this is just a cost of doing business, as is our choice.

Just as we do not make a profit on our shipping costs, call us crazy but we want to make it easy for our customers, commercial and government organisations alike, to do business with us!

At Radio Warehouse, we are constantly expanding our online and offline payment methods which currently include:

  • EFT / Bank Transfer
  • VISA
  • MasterCard
  • American Express
  • Apple Pay
  • Google Pay
  • Leasing
  • Direct Debit
  • Cheque

Whatever your payment method preference, we will not "tax" you by charging you surchage fees, for your choice in payment method.

Naturally, at the end of the day, we are not a charity, and our preference is that your organisation is able to make payment via bank transfer. We also offer discounts for our customers who are able to pay on prepaid terms (we are not a bank 🙂). On checkout on our website, you can select bank transfer as your preferred payment. You will be given our bank details, and once we receive your payment, we will begin to process your order.

However, if your organisation prefers to pay via credit card, to keep your cash flow flexible, then we are happy to be flexible with you, without charging you for the opportunity to do business with you.

Is there a payment method you would like our business to accept, in order for your organisation to do business with us?

Please contact us and let us know.
